ZYIA Active Unboxing and Review
Good morning, afternoon, evening – whatever time it is (I can’t keep track anymore). It seems I can’t keep track of anything things these days… Especially the cake. Oh, the cake. I’ve consumed more slices than I can count over the last two months... Three months? At least I’m staying active or at least trying. I recently started my fitness journey again and my progress is the one really awesome thing I have kept track of. Well, other than my ZYIA Active order…
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have read in my stories how I recently donated most of my workout clothes, and therefore was in search of some new ones. Although I’ve always been a “Lulu girl”, I really just wanted to expand my horizons, as well as my activewear (elasticity included). So, up went the question box and in came the recommendations.
I received a lot of really great responses, but the one that caught my eye the most was ZYIA Active. I’m still not sure if that’s because so many people mentioned it or because it’s written in ALL CAPS. Probably both? Anyway, prior to ordering from ZYIA, there were some key importances I needed to check off, which are as follows…
Sustainability:
I am by no means perfect when it comes to shopping, but I always TRY to look for companies who strive towards sustainability. Did you know both Canadians and Americans discard more than 80 pounds of textiles annually, per person? And when I say “discard”, I mean throw INTO THE GARBAGE. That’s pretty disgusting if you ask me. This is why I choose to donate or re-purpose all of my clothing, buy thrift as often as I can, and/or support businesses who have an eco-friendly approach. It all started with my mom’s clothing swap parties, and while I’m no fashionista like she was, I’m thankful she taught me a thing or two about sustainable fashion.
According to ZYIA, their goal is to make fashion more gentle on the planet and their business model saves more than 52, 000 tons of CO2 each year. And not only does their clothing use less water, but it’s free of harmful chemicals. They use copper infusion technology to fight bacterial growth, which means less frequent washing, which also means less detergent. In 2020, ZYIA launched an eco-conscious collection called “RC”, including items made from 100% recycled threads. As for their packaging, ALL clothing bags and tags are created from either recycled materials or materials that can be composted. Furthermore, they recently converted to electronic warehouse systems, which conserve over 2, 000, 000 sheets of paper every year.
Something I admire most about this company is that they actively acknowledge their room for growth, as they continue to research suppliers and find better ways to source materials. This, to me, shows true determination in making significant changes to the way we purchase clothing.
Quality:
I’m talking long lasting, good quality clothing that is ALSO comfortable to wear. It is stated that ZYIA makes clothing built to last and easy to care for, which is defintiely appreciated. And going back to comfort, I’m very adamant about how my clothes fit. I have no problem carrying a little extra weight around my mid-section after having a little midnight cake session, but when I’m working out, I don’t like the feeling of that skin being loose. Just my personal preference and I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. ZYIA doesn’t seem to think so either, so I can already tell we have a great chance of becoming friends. Yes, I just stated that I very well might become friends with a clothing company. I mean after all, when your human friends aren’t around and you need a hug, it’s likely your clothes are already giving you one, right? Don’t worry, I’m probably going to cringe more than you are right now when I go back to read this.
Speaking of friends, my lovely friend, Nicole was the one who actually initially brought this company to my attention. She is a brand rep for them and for as long as I can remember, she has always had exceptional taste and clothing of great quality. That’s more than enough reason for me.
Versatility:
While I’ve tried many different exercises over the years, pilates is the one I always go back to. I’m often curious if it’s the clothes that keep me coming back; something I can wear while working out, as well as lounge around the house while eating a salad or a cake or whatever. I know that most workout clothes can be used interchangeably in activities of all sorts, as well as lounge wear. However, there have been instances where I’ve tried clothes suited for exercise that just didn’t feel the greatest while working out or even hanging out in. ZYIA active has a category specific to yoga / pilates wear, so that’s one less worry for me.
Now that (almost) all the boxes have been checked, it’s time to move on to the last box, or bag I should say – the unboxing (un-baging).
The first item I “added to cart” was the black “Comfort Racer Bra” that came in a two pack. I bought the small size and it fits perfect. I decided to pair this bra with the “Ascending High-rise Capris”, also in black. Like, I said before, I prefer clothes that can tuck away my loose skin while working out and these pants certainly do the trick. The pants are in a size 4 and fit fairly snug, but not in a way that makes me feel claustrophobic. Keep in mind, it is normal for most yoga pants to feel a little tight until after a few uses. You know how people say, “You gotta break in your shoes”, well the same goes for yoga pants. However, if your clothes feel like they are cutting off your circulation, obviously take them off and opt for a different size.
The third and last item (for now) I purchased was the “2 Moons Tank” in size small. Normally I would have ordered a medium, but this was the only size they had in stock at the time and well, my stubborn torso just had to have it, even if that meant risking the fact that it might not fit. I’m extremely happy to say that it fits and way better than I imagined it would! No complaints here.
Okay, so judging by the lingering darkness outside, it must be getting late. And while I look for the time, the gut I just tucked in is telling me it’s time to workout. Perhaps I should listen and never mind what the clock says, because like size, it’s only a number. I can’t help but wonder if the same applies to pieces of cake… You know, like, “I’m on my tenth slice of cake, but it’s “only a number, so what’s eleven slices?” I mean, who’s even counting?
